Mary Langowski has been named the executive vice president and president of U.S. healthcare for Walgreens Boots Alliance.

Langowski takes on the new role of leading the firm’s healthcare segment as Walgreens aims to expand its role in healthcare. She succeeds John Driscoll, who will transition to a senior advisory role with the company.

“I am thrilled to join Walgreens Boots Alliance as EVP & President of the company’s U.S. Healthcare segment,” Langowski said in a post on LinkedIn. “I’ve had the chance to collaborate with John Driscoll and the Walgreens team for several years, and I’m entering this new chapter excited about the opportunities ahead.”

She brings many years of experience with payers, providers, pharmacy and retail health services. She has served as CEO of Solera Health, a value-based technology business serving payers and employers, since 2020.

Before joining Solera, Langowski served as executive vice president and chief strategy and corporate development officer at CVS Health. Walgreens touted her key role in CVS’ acquisition of Aetna. Langowski has also held leadership roles in federal and state government.

Walgreens has also made two other key executive appointments.

Manmohan Mahajan has been named executive vice president and global chief financial officer (CFO). He has served as interim global CFO since July 2023. Elizabeth Burger has been appointed executive vice president and chief human resources officer.

Alison Santore

Providence names new chief administrative officer

Alison Santore has been elevated to a new role as chief administrative officer of Providence.

Santore has been serving as the system’s executive vice president and chief advocacy and social responsibility officer. In her new role, she’ll oversee government and public affairs, health equity, environmental sustainability, and philanthropy efforts.

She will also oversee the Providence Institute for Human Caring and the Well Being Trust.

“I’m honored to accept this expanded role to serve our organization and support the needs of our patients and communities, especially the poor and vulnerable,” Santore said in a statement. “At Providence, 2024 is the year of transformation and collaboration and I look forward to taking that theme to heart as we advance our commitment to create a more equitable and sustainable health care system.”

Lynnette Clinton

University of Tennessee Medical Center selects CIO

Lynnette Clinton has been appointed senior vice president and chief information officer of The University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Clinton will lead all information technology efforts within the health system. She brings more than 25 years of experience within the healthcare industry, most recently serving as vice president, applications and interim CIO with BayCare Health System in Clearwater, Florida.

She has previously served in roles with Lehigh Valley Health Network and Phoebe Services. Clinton specializes in strategic planning and complex implementations.

“I am honored to join a highly experienced team well-versed in information technology excellence,” Clinton said in a statement. “The groundwork and framework necessary to achieve best-in-class information technology performance and results is already in place, and I look forward to applying my experience and expertise in this new role.”

Benjamin Cunningham, senior vice president and chief financial officer at UTMC, said he’s thrilled to have Clinton in the system.

“Lynnette comes to us with the right blend of soft skills and technical skills necessary to lead our team in this space,” he said in a statement.

John Ceelen

Bellin and Gundersen system appoints new CFO

John Ceelen has been named the next chief financial officer of Bellin and Gundersen Health System in Wisconsin.

Ceelen will begin the new role on Feb. 26. He’ll take over for Steve Little, who has served as interim CFO since August 2023.

He has more than 30 years of executive healthcare finance leadership, including roles at Froedtert Health in Milwaukee and at Ascension Health/Ministry Health – Wisconsin. Most recently, he served as CFO of Banner Health’s western division.

“As a Wisconsin native and from years of experience in Wisconsin healthcare, I have admired Bellin and Gundersen for their quality, service to the community, and collaborative, innovative culture,” Ceelen said in a statement. “What attracted me most is Bellin and Gundersen’s commitment to positively impact people and communities, with a focus on health and well-being. I am thrilled to join this incredible team.”
