VCU Health System appoints chief executive, and more | MED MOVES

After two years of serving in an interim capacity, Marlon F. Levy, MD, has been named the chief executive officer of the VCU Health System.

Levy joined VCU in 2015. He had been serving as interim CEO since November 2022.

“It is the collective effort and dedication of our team members, providers, faculty, staff and students that make VCU Health and VCU Health Sciences so special,” Levy said in a statement. “I am continuously inspired and amazed by the unparalleled skill and compassion of the entire team. It is truly a privilege to serve in this leadership role.”

Prior to his interim role, Levy served as chief medical officer for VCU Medical Center, where he was a practicing abdominal multiorgan transplant surgeon.

Michael Rao, Ph.D., president of Virginia Commonwealth University and chairman of the VCU Health System Authority Board of Directors, said he’s glad that Levy will remain with the system.

“Dr. Levy has led VCU Health’s post-COVID financial turnaround, restoring VCU Health to a positive operating margin, maintaining strong bond ratings and setting our health system on a course for greater success and patient outcomes,” Rao said in a statement.

Brown University Health names first chief nurse executive

Angie Wright has been named the chief nurse executive of Brown University Health, a newly created role for the organization.

She will oversee nursing services across the system and as the chief nursing officer of Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s.

Wright joins Brown after serving as chief nursing officer at Banner University Medicine in Tucson, Arizona, for the past four years.

“As I embark on this journey with Brown University Health, I look forward to working closely with our dedicated nursing team to advance our mission of delivering exceptional patient care,” Wright said in a statement.

Sarah Frost, chief of hospital operations and president of Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s, said Wright will serve as “a champion for the voice of nursing.

“I know this new position will be a wonderful resource for nursing across the system,” Frost said in a statement. “I’m excited to have Angie’s focus, expertise, and leadership skills onboard.”

Christ Hospital Health Network appoints chief digital transformation officer

Joyce Oh has been named the chief information and digital transformation officer of Christ Hospital Health Network.

She began serving in her new role on Oct. 28. She brings more than 25 years of experience to the post. Oh is going to focus on using technology to aid clinicians and improve the patient experience.

“I am incredibly excited to join The Christ Hospital Health Network and contribute to its legacy of excellence in patient care and innovation," Oh said in a statement. "I look forward to working with the team to drive digital transformation that not only improves outcomes but also enhances the experience for both patients and healthcare professionals."

Prior to joining The Christ Hospital Health Network, Oh served as chief information officer at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida.

Debbie Hayes, president and CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network, hailed Oh’s experience.

"Her extensive expertise in digital transformation, data analytics and process improvement, combined with her proven leadership in driving large-scale innovation, will be instrumental in advancing our mission to deliver exceptional patient care and outcomes,” Hayes said in a statement.

C. Lee Jackson, MD

CHI Memorial names new chief medical officer

C. Lee Jackson, MD, has been named chief medical officer of CHI Memorial.

Jackson took the post beginning Nov. 1.

A urologist, Jackson’s career spans over 30 years, and he’s credited with helping to develop CHI Memorial’s robotics program. The system says Jackson has been a pioneer in robotic prostatectomy procedures.

Before becoming chief medical officer, Jackson served as a physician advisor and medical director of surgical services at CHI Memorial.

Jackson developed the “Supportive Peer” program, which gives clinicians a chance to talk about stressful situations.

Previously, Jackson began the robotics program at the Cleveland Clinic Florida while serving as head of the urology department. He also served as associate chief of staff at Cleveland Clinic Florida.
