Sonnad
The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®) seeks nominees for the Seema S. Sonnad Emerging Leader in Managed Care Research Award, which each year recognizes an individual whose early achievements in managed care demonstrate the potential to make an exceptional, long-term contribution as a leader in the field.
The award is named for Dr. Sonnad, who was the associate editor of AJMC® when she died unexpectedly on March 27, 2015, from a cardiac arrhythmia suffered as she competed in an ultramarathon. At the time of her death, Dr. Sonnad was a member of the faculty at Thomas Jefferson University, where she helped launch and then co-directed the Value Institute at ChristianaCare in Delaware, one of the nation’s largest, integrated healthcare systems. This position allowed Sonnad to apply research findings in real-world settings.
Dr. Sonnad took a keen interest in training investigators and nurturing careers of young women. She had long conceived of such an award to highlight early career achievement in managed care research.
To be considered for the award, nominees must be less than five years from the receipt of their highest degree or less than 7 years from their first full-time position. Other criteria are:
