FIU Health hires a new chief executive, and others take new roles.
Matthew Fry has been appointed the new president and chief executive officer of Freeman Health System in Joplin, Missouri.
He will join Freeman Health on April 1. Fry is succeeding Paula Baker, the longtime president and CEO who announced her retirement in early 2024.
Fry is currently the president and CEO of Hospital Sisters Health System’s St. John’s Hospital. He has held that role since September 2022. He was also promoted to CEO of HSHS’s Central Illinois market, overseeing four other hospitals in Illinois.
“Freeman Health System is an amazing resource for the community, and I am humbled to lead the organization as the next President and CEO,” Fry said in a statement. “I am incredibly impressed with the quality of care, the expansive services offered and the compassionate culture that Freeman Health System offers the communities it serves.”
Previously, Fry served as chief operating officer of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland, California, which is part of Sutter Health.
In an email to Freeman’s staff, Baker offered her support to Fry.
"I feel confident about Matt's ability to lead Freeman into the future," Baker wrote in the email. "I have told him all about how wonderful the Freeman Team is, and he can't wait to meet you all."
