HCA Midwest names a CEO of Research Medical Center, and others take new roles.
Thomas McGinn, MD, has been named senior executive vice president and chief physician executive officer of CommonSpirit Health.
Thomas McGinn
McGinn will take the newly created post beginning Sept. 30. He will work in partnership with Kathy Sanford, the system’s chief nursing officer, and Terika Richardson, chief operating officer, on all aspects of clinical care.
He will report to CommonSpirit CEO Wright Lassiter III and continue to serve as a member of the system’s executive team. He joined CommonSpirit as the system’s executive vice president for physician enterprise.
McGinn said he’s looking forward to working with CommonSpirit’s leaders and staff in the new post.
“Together, we have a unique opportunity to truly transform health care delivery, drive innovation, and advance high quality, affordable, evidence-based care for the benefit of our patients and the communities we serve,” McGinn said in a statement.
In an interview with Chief Healthcare Executive® in October 2023, McGinn said CommonSpirit is focusing on giving clinicians more ability to focus on their patients. He also cited the system’s long commitment to health equity.
“CommonSpirit is built on a mission of serving the poor,” McGinn says. “From our founding sisters that started many of our hospitals across all of our markets, that was fundamental and that continues to be the driving force for CommonSpirit.”
Before joining CommonSpirit, McGinn served at Northwell Health as deputy physician-in-chief and senior vice president of physician network operations.
