ChristianaCare hires a chief wellbeing officer, and other leaders take new roles.

Alejandro Quiroga, MD, has been named the new chief executive officer of Children’s Mercy Kansas City.

Alejandro Quiroga, MD

A pediatric nephrologist, Quiroga will begin his new role on Jan. 2, 2025. He has been serving as president of Corewell Health West in the Corewell Health system in Michigan.

Diane Gallagher, chair of the board of directors at Children’s Mercy, described Quiroga as an ‘inspiring leader with a strong research mindset.” He emerged as the clear choice in the system’s search for a new leader.

“He stood out for his impressive experience leading a successful, growing hospital system with a spirit of humility, optimism, innovation and a deep passion for caring for children.” Gallagher said in a statement. “We are energized by the next chapter under Dr. Quiroga’s leadership.”

Quiroga held other leadership positions at Corewell Health, including chief medical officer, ambulatory & population health.

He described coming to Children’s Mercy as “a dream come true.”

“I am truly honored to join this amazing team at Children’s Mercy,” Quiroga said in a statement. “I have watched Children’s Mercy from afar and have been inspired by the excellence in pediatric clinical care and groundbreaking research. I have long admired Children’s Mercy and the impressive, caring and committed talent that makes this hospital system world-class.”

Maureen Leffler

ChristianaCare names chief wellbeing officer

Maureen “Mo” Leffler has been named the new chief wellbeing officer of ChristianaCare in Delaware.

Leffler began her new role on Nov. 25. In her new post, she leads the ChristianaCare Center for WorkLife Wellbeing, which aims to improve the experience of the system’s nearly 14,000 caregivers.

Most recently, she served as the inaugural chief wellbeing officer at Nemours Children’s Health. Previously, she served as a pediatric rheumatologist at Nemours and as an assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of Rheumatology at Thomas Jefferson University.

Since 2017, she has served as the course director of the Chief Resident Leadership Training Program for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Farzad Nourian

AdventHealth names ministry leader of East Florida region

Farzad Nourian has been named the vice president of mission and ministry of AdventHealth’s East Florida Division.

Nourian begins the new role on Dec. 29. He’ll oversee chaplaincy services throughout the division, which includes seven hospitals and employs over 11,000 people.

He joined AdventHealth as a staff chaplain in 2002 and has taken on more leadership roles throughout his career.

“It’s an honor to step into this role and continue a mission that has been the foundation of my work for over 20 years,” Nourian said in a statement. “I look forward to building on the incredible legacy of this team and finding new ways to bring faith and healing to our communities.”

Audrey Gregory, executive vice president and CEO of the AdventHealth East Florida Division, offered high praise for Nourian.

“Farzad has a way of turning our mission into action—whether it is providing comfort to a family in need or building bridges with our faith communities,” Gregory said in a statement. “His ability to lead with both strength and humility, coupled with his focus on our mission, makes him the perfect fit for this important role. I am confident that his leadership will help ensure our mission remains at the heart of everything we do.”

Jim Boyle

HCA Midwest hospital names chief nursing officer

Jim Boyle has been named the chief nursing officer of Overland Park Regional Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health.

Boyle brings over 26 years of healthcare experience to the role.

Most recently, he served as chief nursing officer of Medical City Weatherford Hospital in Weatherford, Texas, part of HCA Healthcare’s North Texas Division.

Boyle also served as vice president of clinical operations and as assistant chief nursing officer for Medical City Arlington.

Matt Sogard, CEO of Overland Park Regional Medical Center, praised his qualifications.

“A nursing executive with extensive experience in the nursing profession and strong leadership attributes, Jim has a proven track record of innovation and providing high-quality care,” Sogard said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to welcome Jim to lead our talented, dedicated and motivated nursing team. His advocacy will support critical work in furthering our efforts for a supportive, inclusive and empowering environment for nursing colleagues.”

Boyle is a graduate of the HCA Healthcare Leadership Institute’s Executive Development Program.
