The Joint Commission appoints a chief legal officer, and others take new posts.
Cara Camiolo, MD, has been named the chief quality and safety officer of Intermountain Health.
She was chosen after a wide national search, the system said. Most recently, she has served as the chief medical officer for Intermountain Health’s Desert Region, which includes southwestern Utah and southern Nevada.
“I am excited to step into this role and champion the important work of the Clinical Excellence team,” Camiolo said in a statement. “It is an honor to serve our patients in this new capacity, and I look forward to working with teams across the organization to advance Intermountain's commitment to excellence in quality, safety and experience."
With her new position, Camiolo will lead Intermountain Health’s Clinical Excellence team to spur more proactive care across the system.
JP Valin, MD, chief clinical officer of Intermountain Health, said Camiolo is well-suited for the role.
“Dr. Camiolo is a proven champion of quality and safety. I’m excited for her to lead our amazing Clinical Excellence team that has helped to propel Intermountain to industry-leading top decile performance,” Valin said in a statement.
Joint Commission names executive VP and chief legal officer
Marleina T. Davis has been named executive vice president and chief legal officer of The Joint Commission.
She comes to the commission after spending 20 years with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. For the past 13 years, Davis served as the Cleveland Clinic’s deputy chief legal officer and assistant secretary.
Jonathan B. Perlin, president and chief executive officer of The Joint Commission and Joint Commission International, said he is excited for Davis to join the organization.
“Her leadership and extensive expertise in healthcare will be instrumental in implementing our growth and mission strategies, allowing us to further enable the highest standards of healthcare quality and patient safety for all,” Perlin said in a statement.
HCA Healthcare names CFO of Gulf Coast division
Gary Searls has been named the chief financial officer of HCA Healthcare’s Gulf Coast division.
Searls began in his new role on Jan. 6. He has worked with HCA Healthcare’s West Florida Division for 30 years. Previously, he has served as chief financial officer at South Bay Hospital, Doctors Hospital of Sarasota and Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg.
Since March 2017, Searls has served as chief financial officer for HCA Florida Brandon Hospital. He also serves as treasurer for Angels Foundation of Florida, a local non-profit organization helping families during crisis.
AnewHealth names new CEO
Brian Adams has been named the new chief executive officer of AnewHealth, a pharmacy care management provider.
He began in the new role on Jan. 1. Adams succeeds John Figueroa, who stepped down as CEO and moved into a new role as executive chairman of the company’s board of directors.
Adams has been serving as president of AnewHealth, which was formed by the merger of ExactCare and Tabula Rasa HealthCare.
“We are doing remarkable work in the market, transforming healthcare delivery for the millions of people with complex medical needs who require more comprehensive pharmacy care to gain independence and live healthier lives wherever they call home,” Adams said in a statement.
